Herriman fire

Nearly 1400 houses have been evacuated in Herriman area due to wildfire. The strong winds have spread the fire over the whole mountainside. Herriman fire was ignited by a machinegun fire reportedly at Camp-Williams where a routine exercise of guardsmen was underway. Nicole Martin (Herriman spokeswoman) told the press that hundred firefighters were battling to extinguish the fire. Currently no injuries were reported.

The police and local officials were working in collaboration to convey the evacuation notices to ensure safety of people. The authorities are also updating the neighborhood via twitter.

The authorities have called more than 100 guardsmen to help the firefighting task. The Governor of Utah is monitoring the situation closely. He told the media that Herriman fire was still strong and the extinguishing task depends on the weather conditions especially the wind. The strong wind had pushed the dancing flames downwards to the housing area. An emergency has not been declared by the Governor although he has asked FEMA (federal emergency management Agency) for assistance. FEMA has agreed to pay some fire-management assistance.

Herriman High-School has been declared the evacuation center as fire has spread over a larger area.

The residents of ‘Salt Lake County’ were requested not to use mobile phones in order to keep the phone lines available for emergency calls.
