“Obviously I am pretty disappointed, I came here hoping I could win gold for my country and that dream has been cut short in the heats,” D’Arcy said.
Three Britons – Michael Rock, Joe Roebuck and Robbie Pavoni – took the last three places for the final later today.
D’Arcy was sentenced to a suspended jail term of 14 months for a king-hit on Simon Cowley after wild boozy celebrations for being selected in the Australian Beijing Olympic team. He was subsequently kicked off the team.
His appearance in the Commonwealth Games was meant to be a form of redemption and an attempt to win back fans, who had universally supported Cowley, and who continues to go extensive rounds of facial surgery.
