But with one of the strongest fields ever on the men’s side, there’s a good chance of a course record — if not a world record — in the event.
The women’s course mark of 2 hours, 17 minutes, 18 seconds, set by Paula Radcliffe of Great Britain in 2002 (then a world record), is less likely to be challenged.
The marathon begins at 7:30 this morning in Grant Park and winds through Chicago neighborhoods. For elite runners, conditions will be close to perfect, with a 59-degree temperature expected at the start. Ordinary runners will face more challenging conditions by late morning, with the temperature rising into the upper 70s.
